The Christmas season can be overwhelming as we hustle and bustle to find the perfect gift for our boss, our best friend or our family members. With all the expectations to plan the perfect party and have the house perfectly decorated, we can easily get distracted from what really matters. I totally found myself doing the same. Then I saw a fellow instagramer who talked about what Christmas was really about, and it caught my attention. It totally helped me refocus! So as I prayed on what the message is for this season, it came to me…. Love. We all crave it. We all seek it. And we simply cannot live without it. Scriptures tells us;
If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:2
Matt 22:36-40
“Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
The greatest gift
The entire gospel was based on love. God, Himself is love. He knew we could not survive living bound by the law, so from day one, He had a greater plan in place. His love for us was so great, that He offered us the biggest gift anyone could ever give… His very own son. What I love most is, He sent His perfect Son to an imperfect world to set us free. He experienced first hand the pain and joys we all experience here in this broken world. And He did it in the most humble way possible.
Love
Love never fails. Love conquered the grave. Love is what changes our hearts to live outward. Love is is what caused our big, big God to send His only son to earth to deliver us when we least deserved it. Love should be our greatest motivation in everything we do. We are created to love. We are built for relationship. To have a relationship with Christ, and with those ones around us. He conquered death so we could live in His mercy, and to share that same mercy and love with those around us. It is time to reach out, while resting in the one who gave us life.
